Nothing Compares 2 U

Prepare to be blown away. Little Jimmy Scott (1925 – 2014) was an American jazz vocalist famous for his high countertenor voice and his sensitivity on ballads and love songs. His unusual singing voice was due to Kallman syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that limited his height to 4 feet 11 inches (150 cm) until the age of 37, when he grew by 8 inches (20 cm). The syndrome prevented him from reaching classic puberty and left him with a high voice. Here he sings the Prince song, Nothing Compare 2 U. His 1998 rendition is faltering and haunting and completely lost.

We play it often here at The Vampire’s Wife! But, well, when you look again at the extraordinary performance by Sinéad O'Connor in the 1990 video of that same song and see the bottomless hurt and the anger and the defiance, I don’t know, but nothing compares 2 her. Beautiful Sinéad.

Love, Susie
