ONLY YOUR EXQUISITE EYES

ONLY YOUR EXQUISITE EYES

I love the painter, Susan Valadon’s portrait of her lover, the composer, Eric Satie, in all its furious and demented colour. An unconventional lover, to say the least, Eric Satie gifted Susan Valadon, a necklace of sausages and a bag filled with all the wonderful smells of the world. He wrote of her and her child—

”Everywhere I see only your exquisite eyes, your gentle hands, and your little child’s feet.”

She left him bereft after six months, and he never took another lover. Much love, Susie x
