Merry Christmas from The Vampire's Wife

Nativity at Night

Here is our Christmas gift to you all, from The Vampire’s Wife. Nativity at Night by Geertgen tot Sint Jans, c. 1490 is one of the most poignant of nativity scenes. I love that the infant Jesus is the source of light Himself, illuminating the faces of Mary and the angels. This painting was influenced by the visions of Saint Bridget of Sweden. Shortly before her death, she described a vision of the infant Jesus as lying on the ground, and emitting His own light, and describes the Virgin as blond-haired. This is such a beautiful painting, holding the promise of Christmas! Much love to you all. See you next year, Susie x
