In praise of P.J. Proby

P.J. Proby, sings ‘Somewhere’ from the musical West Side Story, in this clip from American Bandstand, in 1965. With the bow in the back of his hair and his weird smocked ensemble, this video always brings a smile to my face – that irresistible self-absorption some performers have, the sheer audacity of their stage persona, the crazy belief in themselves – how I love to see this. We adore P. J. Proby’s bizarre rendition of this classic song here at The Vampire’s Wife. Love, Susie x

Somewhere (There’s a Place for Us)

There's a place for us
Somewhere a place for us
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us
Somewhere
There's a time for us
Some day a time for us
Time together with time to spare
Time to look, time to care
Some day
Somewhere
We'll find a new way of living
We'll find a way of forgiving
Somewhere
There's a place for us
A time and place for us
Hold my hand and we're halfway there
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow
Some day
Somewhere
