PIERRE LAROCHE – A TRUE VISIONARY

I met the makeup artist, Pierre LaRoche, on a photo shoot many years ago. He had just returned from living in New York and had settled opposite me in Edith Grove just off the Kings Road. I was in my early twenties. We became very close friends in the short time that he was alive — a truly beautiful soul. He told me the most wonderful stories about T Rex, and about creating David Bowie’s makeup for Aladdin Sane and Ziggy Stardust. He was the most humble of men. He was in my opinion the greatest, most inventive makeup artist the world had ever seen, but back then these extraordinarily talented people did not receive the same recognition and status as they would today. So let’s remember Pierre LaRoche who was a true visionary genius and the most beautiful friend! Love Susie. x
