In praise of Isabella Rossellini

Isabella Rossellini

I watched Blue Velvet again last week and thirty-something years on, this film, so ubiquitous in its influence, still had the same effect as it had when I first saw it in a cinema in New York, all those years ago. David Lynch’s vision – his uncanny gaze – is so powerful, so radical, that for days afterwards I experienced the world through his eyes - the space between things seemed eerily altered, and everything felt preternatural. It is a strange world, indeed.

It must also be said that one can only marvel at Isabella Rossellini’s extraordinary and complex performance as the object of everyone’s desire – a goddess, of sorts, for sure. Love, Susie x
