Why The Vampire's Wife is About to Go to the Top of Your Fashion Wishlist
Susie Cave has spent her life surrounded by fashion and music, and the inspirations are clear to see in her fashion label, The Vampire's Wife. A nod to her husband, Australian musician and writer Nick Cave, the name apparently came from one of his aborted book projects. Susie, a former model, has decades of fashion industry experience, and she's filtered it all into her label, which is heavy on pretty prairie dresses infused with a dose of gothic glam. Like Nick, Susie is tall and willowy with jet-black hair, and she shares his flair for the dramatic, but overall, her style is a lot more bohemian and soft. She fuses the two worlds perfectly, creating evening dresses in baroque red velvet, prim high-necked maxi dresses in dark lamé or vintage-inspired liberty prints, and midi skirts in stiff starched silks. Since the label launched in 2015, her creations have been worn by fashion-forward stars like Oscar nominee Ruth Negga, Cate Blanchett, and Dakota Johnson. There are surprises, too: the jewel-hued Night Garden dress is more '50s bombshell than princess of darkness and has become a favourite with retro-loving celebs like Daisy Lowe, Kylie Minogue, and Charlotte "Olympia" Dellal (she seems to have it in every colour).
